if ur going to get started this late, i suggest you get the box set with proph and eye of the north. eye of the north has the HoM (Hall of Monuments) where you can save achievements for rewards in GW2.

we just found out recently that gw2 won't even go into open beta this year, so probably summer 09 at the earliest it will be hitting store shelves.

I'd get the boxed set. Not only do you get the Hall of Monuments with EotN, you'll also gain access to heroes, which are very nice to have around. You'll also be able to pick up some powerful skills in EotN that you can't get elsewhere.

Which game to get is all down to personal choice but imo the differences are
Prophesies the first game Western European style largest of the 3 very good storyline slower character progression than the others contains some important elite skills its also an open game ie all cities are unlocked so if you get there you can enter. Factions the second game Eastern style "Chinese fantasy" 2 extra classes Ritualist and Assasin Most Cities are closed till you complete missions and open them storyline good but not as good as prophesies. As the title says its a faction based game you must at some point become a mercernary for a faction to finish the game at which point you can change sides and explore the other factions territory has some player vs player areas . Nightfall the third game North African style 2 new classes Paragon and Dervish This game brought in Heroes which are computer controlled companions you can arm and equip with what skills you like. I happen to like this one better than the other two "but I am glad I played prophesies first as I learned much. The character development in the second 2 games is far faster than in prophesies its for the individual to decide if that makes a better game. |

Prophecies and Eye of the North combo. Prophecies has the friendliest storyline not to mention some useful skills people like for PvE (i.e., Meteor Shower). Eye of the North continues on after all three games, but in reality, more or less is after Prophecies. It's a glorifying beautiful game out of the four, not to mention gives you heroes.
Factions has the assassin, my second favorite class. The storyline isn't very complex as it's basically the resurrection of one bad but awesome villain, and the empires of Cantha needing to work together to defeat him. However, this game is better than... Nightfall. Has heroes, but so does Eye of the North. This game takes too long to get started with a new character, the story is like a black and white film with only piano music in the background. It's boring. It does some new gameplay elements but I hated this game. I still do. It's just plain boring. This is my opinion though. Prophecies and Eye of the North package. Then buy Factions. Nightfall is lame. Get it last. |
